Documentation of custom programed LED sign.
In Collaboration with the "Fem Gems"
Rachel Glass, Liz Cambron, Grace Cross
2016

A programmed LED installation that plays with the kitsch visual language of storefront displays and women’s quilting circles. The quilted lights are programmed to display a flashing stream of poetic texts generated from the female in tech experience –referencing class, otherness and feminist social movements. The installation uses the lit sign as a theatrical space performing for passersby on the street, proposing an experiential connection to storytelling. A free-form hex on convention, on a canon, the light works pose an opportunity to visually represent such complex issues as race, feminism, and cultural borders being surfaced.
